"There is an unanswered question that has been fervently debated since the days of the camera obscura: Is photography an art or a science?

I’d like to make a case for art if I may, and I shall use Chris Mann as my knight with shining Leica to do so.

Chris is a portrait photographer of prodigious talent. When I look at Chris’s images, even if the image is of someone I thought I knew intimately, I feel like I gain an understanding of who the subject is; what they do; why they are here.

Chris is a visual poet. His work is insightful, honest, and revealing, and if you are in the public eye it is important that the images that you put out there reflect this.

Leave the responsibility for doing so in the hands of an artist, not a scientist."

...“I'm glad you'll see me as I am. Above all, I wouldn't want people to think that I want to prove anything. I don't want to prove anything, I just want to live.”...
